In a letter to the editor published in The New York Times today, SIWPS Member Stuart Gottlieb argues that analogies between U.S. involvement in Syria and Vietnam overlook a crucial aspect of the Syrian crisis: the gravity of the threat posed by ISIS to the U.S. and to vital U.S. interests in the Middle East.

The letter is a response to Fredrik Logevall and Gordon M. Goldstein’s New York Times Op-Ed from October 8th, “Will Syria be Obama’s Vietnam?”
