Professor Alexander Cooley, a member of the Saltzman Institute, was interviewed for article published today on the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty website. The article, titled “Clinton in Central Asia: Seeking Balance Between Realpolitik and Rights,” discussed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In the article, Dr. Cooley points out that Secretary Clinton’s meetings with the authoritarian leaders of these countries could be construed as implying U.S. support for their policies, including well-documented human rights abuses.
