Robert and Renée Belfer Professor of International Relations Jack Snyder will be participating in a debate with Richard Dicker, director of the International Justice Program at Human Rights Watch, on the Economist’s website. Professor Snyder will provide three statements – an opening, a rebuttal and a conclusion – against the resolution, “This house believes that punishing wrongdoers is fundamental to securing lasting peace,” while Mr. Dicker will support the resolution. Readers will be allowed to vote for or against the resolution in an online poll, which will determine the winner of the debate.

The debaters’ opening statements were published today on the Economist’s debate page, click here to read them. Rebuttals will be available at the same address on Friday, Sep. 9, closing remarks next Wednesday, Sep. 14, and the winner of the debate will be announced that Friday, Sept. 16.
