Vivek Mishra is a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Scholar at the Saltzman Institute of War & Peace Studies. He is working on his doctoral thesis titled, “American Maritime Strategy in the Indian Ocean in post-Cold War Era, 1990-2012”. His broad areas of research concern probing the American role in the Indian Ocean, the Indo-Pacific and Asia-Pacific regions. He also looks closely at the US security role in South Asia and Indo-US defense relations. Besides his thesis, he is currently working on a book manuscript exploring various facets of India-US relations under Prime Minister Modi.

In the past Mr. Mishra has been editorial associate for the Indian Foreign Affairs Journal, run by the Association of Indian Diplomats. He has also worked an associate with Indicia Research and Advisory, a New Delhi–based think tank consulting on the Indian defense sector and internal security. Previously Mr. Mishra was a research fellow with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies, Integrated Defence Staff, Ministry of Defence, India. He was also an intern with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies in New Delhi. He was awarded a pre-doctoral fellowship by the Osmania University Centre for International Programs, Osmania University, Hyderabad, to study U.S.-India-China relations in the Indian Ocean. He has published five book chapters, four research papers in peer-reviewed journals including Strategic Analysis and South Asia Journal and more than 40 op-eds.
