Maximilian Terhalle has conducted research and taught at Columbia, Yale and Cornell between 2007 and 2011. During the AY 2011-12, he is working on his second book, tentatively under the title “Why the Socialization of Rising Powers Has Failed: Implications for a Post-hegemonic Age.”
His work has been published – or is accepted for publication – in Security Studies, International Studies Perspectives, Review of International Studies, International Studies Review, Zeitschrift fuer Politikwissenschaft as well as Middle East Policy Journal. His doctoral thesis was published by Boehlau Press (Cologne/GER) and reviewed by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung among others.
Born in Frankfurt/Main (GER), he read International Relations, Modern History, Public International Law, Classics and Middle East Politics in London, Berlin, Cairo, Freiburg and Bonn (DPhil 2006). Before his stints at the aforementioned universities, he worked for a think tank in Berlin as well as the German Defense Department. Last but not least, he is a reserve officer at Germany’s HQ near Potsdam.
