Colonel Jimmy Howell is a United States Army Infantry Officer with more than 20 years of
service in the Department of Defense. He holds a B.S. in History with a minor in Systems
Engineering from the United States Military Academy and an M.A. in National Defense and
Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. COL Howell has served in various Light,
Airborne, Ranger, and Stryker Infantry units throughout his career and will assume command of
2 nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 11 th Airborne Division in 2023. He has also served
as the J5 Interagency Chief for the Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Organization and Executive
Officer to the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point. COL Howell
has nine combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. He is married and has five
daughters.
