Institute affiliate and counterterrorism expert Stuart Gottlieb had his “Letter to the Editor” published in the New York Times. The letter is a response to an Op-Ed by Oliver Bullough comparing school shootings in the US to terrorist attacks like the Boston Marathon bombings. Dr. Gottlieb argues that “political violence” like terrorism should be considered in a separate category from “senseless violence” resulting from “individual alienation”. Specifically, Dr. Gottlieb notes, national security can be improved by acting to limit the spread of radicalism for the first category but not in the second.

The letter can be read at the New York Times’ website.
