Daniel Oleks, a 2006 SIPA graduate and former Departmental Research Assistant for the Saltzman Institute, reflects on his relationship with international relations icon Kenneth Waltz in a piece published in the Fall 2014 edition of Columbia Magazine.

Daniel’s one-time agreement to drive Dr. Waltz and his wife to their home in Maine turned into a journey repeated fourteen times, during which their conversations touched on topics ranging from nuclear theory to the history of American popular music. Dr. Waltz, whose books Man, the State and War and A Theory of International Politics are canonical texts in the field of International Relations, passed away last year.
