Description:
This panel discussion explores the digital roots of anti-corruption activism, the protests in Nepal, and their explosive escalation into arguably the largest mass demonstrations in the country’s history. Sparked by anger at nepotism and elite impunity, thus far the movement has left 19 dead, hundreds injured, and forced the resignation of top leaders, including Prime Minister KP Oli. Speakers trace the build-up, flashpoints, and uncertain aftermath, situating Nepal’s uprising within a broader wave of youth-driven movements reshaping democracy across South and Southeast Asia, from Nepal to Indonesia.
This event is convened and moderated by Saltzman Institute member Dr. Rumela Sen, SIPA Faculty Member and Director of the MIA program.
