Callum McFarlane is a Visiting Scholar at the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies for the fall 2025 semester, and a PhD candidate in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. He earned his BA and MA in Political Science and International Relations, respectively, from the University of Chicago. His doctoral research examines the role of sport in international relations, drawing on theories of status seeking, public diplomacy, and soft power. Beyond his work in sports diplomacy, he is also engaged in questions of AI safety and is a fellow of the Cambridge AI Safety Institute.
